Locating the modernist state. On whether or not modernist principles govern contemporary policy practice

چکیده

Modernism is the belief in a world that can be understood objective terms and controlled as such. Even though it commonly to naïve worldview, public administration theorists believe still aptly describe modus operandi of modern states—albeit more subtle forms. This raises question whether makes civil servants modernists, or theories modernist state are oversimplifying government practice. study explores this by means interviews with involved decision making processes on infrastructure investments. It finds norms do not an actual practice, but reflect language used legitimize practice which policy makers driven desire act rather than knowledge about world. Consequently, argues we should asking ourselves why states operate according principles, their set does seem it.
